Gulveer Singh to Headline World 10K Bengaluru with Strong Elite Field
Gulveer Singh Leads Indian Contingent
Gulveer Singh, the national record holder in both the 10,000 m and 5,000 m events, is set to spearhead the Indian elite runners at the upcoming 18th World 10K Bengaluru, taking place on April 26. This prestigious race, recognized with a World Athletics Gold Label, consistently draws top distance runners globally, offering Indian athletes a chance to compete against elite international talent on their home turf.
Gulveer Singh's Impressive Performance
Entering the race with exceptional momentum, Gulveer recently secured third place at the New York City Half Marathon, finishing with a remarkable time of 59:42, marking the fastest half-marathon time by an Indian. He holds national records in the 10,000m (27:00.22) and 5,000m (12:59.77) and had a stellar 2025 season, clinching victories in both events at the Asian Athletics Championships. Additionally, he set a record of 1:12:06 at the World 25K Kolkata 2025.
"The TCS World 10K Bengaluru is among the most competitive road races in India, and I am thrilled to participate this year. It presents a fantastic opportunity to challenge myself on the Bengaluru roads," Gulveer expressed.
International Competitors Join the Race
The organizers have also revealed a formidable international elite lineup for this year's race, featuring athletes such as Harbert Kibet from Uganda, Vincent Langat from Kenya, Gemechu Dida from Ethiopia, and Samuel Habte from Eritrea.
Commenting on the caliber of the competition, Singh noted, "The TCS World 10K Bengaluru attracts some of the finest international athletes annually. Competing against such a strong field encourages Indian runners to elevate their performance and can inspire many young athletes in the country to pursue running."
"Events like this are crucial for the sports ecosystem, especially in a year focused on the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games," he added.
Prize Money and Incentives
The World 10K features a total prize pool of USD 210,000, with USD 26,000 designated for the winners in both the men's and women's categories. Indian elite athletes will also vie for significant rewards, including Rs 3 lakh for top finishers and an additional Rs 1 lakh for breaking an event record.
