Gulveer Singh Makes History as First Indian to Run Sub-Four-Minute Mile
Historic Achievement at Music City Track Carnival
Gulveer Singh, a 27-year-old bronze medallist from the Asian Games in the men's 10,000m, achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first Indian athlete to complete a mile in under four minutes. This feat took place during the 24th Annual Music City Track Carnival held at Lee University in Cleveland, USA.
He clocked an impressive time of 3:55.63 seconds, securing first place in the Men's 1 Mile Pro event. Following him were Christopher Knight, 20, from the USA, who finished second with a time of 3:59.72, and Tristan Trevino, 21, also from the USA, who came in third at 4:00.27, as reported by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI).
Currently based in the USA, Gulveer is gearing up for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the Asian Games scheduled in Japan.
New National Record in 5000m
Earlier, Gulveer made headlines by establishing a new national record in the men's 5000m outdoor event, where he won a silver medal with a time of 13:03.93 at the Sound Running Track Fest in Los Angeles.
He finished second to New Mexico's Habtom Samuel, who won the race with a time of 12:57.22.
Gulveer's personal best remains at 12:59.77, achieved during an indoor competition at the Boston University Terrier DMR Challenge in 2025. His recent time of 13:03.93 now stands as the national record for outdoor events.
