Gandhinagar, June 4: A significant enforcement initiative named 'Operation Delta Hunt' has resulted in the apprehension of 501 individuals suspected to be illegal Bangladeshi immigrants throughout Gujarat, as reported by local authorities.

This coordinated operation took place across various districts, focusing on the verification and identification of undocumented foreign nationals residing in the region.

On Wednesday, law enforcement teams, including district police, crime branches, cyber units, and special operations groups, conducted early morning inspections at residential areas, labor sites, and other locations identified through intelligence reports.

This operation is part of a broader framework aimed at enhancing security and enforcing immigration laws in Gujarat.

Officials noted that these enforcement actions utilize a mix of telecom data analysis, human intelligence, and document verification to pinpoint individuals suspected of illegal residency.

In the initial stages of this operation, authorities screened thousands of individuals and detained several hundred after thorough verification.

Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi characterized the initiative as an intelligence-driven exercise involving collaborative efforts across various police units.

He stated, "These operations aim to identify undocumented residents and investigate potential networks that facilitate their presence through forged documents, housing, and employment assistance."

Previous investigations have also scrutinized identity documents, revealing cases of suspected forgery or fraudulent acquisition of Aadhaar records, along with checks on individuals and networks allegedly aiding undocumented immigrants.

Authorities have indicated that further questioning of additional suspected individuals will continue alongside the verification of those already detained.

This extensive enforcement effort is part of ongoing state-level actions against illegal immigration, with earlier phases of Operation Delta Hunt resulting in numerous detentions and large-scale screening operations in cities such as Ahmedabad, Surat, and Rajkot.

More information, including the district-wise breakdown of the latest detentions and subsequent legal actions, is anticipated following the completion of the ongoing verification process.
