Gujarat Titans Secure Victory Over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2026
Gujarat Titans Triumph in IPL Match
In a thrilling encounter on Thursday in Ahmedabad, Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill expressed his contentment following a four-wicket victory against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) during their IPL 2026 match. Gill commended the GT bowlers for their exceptional performance, which limited RCB to a modest total of 155 runs in their innings, paving the way for an easier chase for the home team.
Chasing Down the Target
GT successfully chased down the target of 156 runs in just 15.4 overs, with significant contributions from Shubman Gill, who scored 43 runs off 18 balls, and Jos Buttler, who added 39 runs off 19 balls. Rahul Tewatia's unbeaten 27 runs and Rashid Khan's support helped secure the win after a few middle-order wickets fell. Earlier, GT's bowlers excelled, with Arshad Khan taking 3 wickets for 22 runs, supported by Rashid Khan (2/19) and Jason Holder (2/29). With this victory, GT now stands fifth in the IPL points table, having achieved five wins out of nine matches and accumulating a total of 10 points.
Gill Reflects on the Match
During the post-match presentation, Shubman Gill expressed his satisfaction with the win, highlighting the bowlers' efforts in keeping the opposition under 160 runs on a batting-friendly pitch. He mentioned feeling 'in the zone' during his innings and aimed to challenge the bowlers. Gill praised Tewatia for his crucial role in finishing the match, acknowledging that the team lost more wickets than anticipated but appreciated the overall contributions from the squad. He stated, 'Restricting them to under 160 was a tremendous job by the bowlers. Our fielding was one of the things...in phases, we have not fielded well. Energy in the field was very nice.'
Jason Holder Shines as Player of the Match
Jason Holder earned the Player of the Match title for his outstanding bowling performance, taking 2 wickets for 19 runs in four overs and making three crucial catches, dismissing Rajat Patidar, Tim David, and Krunal Pandya. His catch of Patidar was particularly notable; after a short delivery from Arshad Khan, Patidar attempted a pull shot but ended up top-edging the ball towards deep backward square leg. Holder sprinted to his right and executed a sharp low catch, despite the presence of Kagiso Rabada nearby. Although RCB players contested the decision, claiming Holder lacked control and that the ball might have touched the ground, the umpires upheld the dismissal.
Holder expressed his satisfaction with his performance and credited the team's energy. Regarding his catch of Patidar, he acknowledged Rabada's proximity but felt confident in his attempt. He remarked, 'Happy things went well for me personally. Felt our energy was good from the start. I welcome whatever comes my way and am glad to contribute to the win.'
