Gujarat Titans Face Disappointment in IPL 2026 Final Against RCB
Gujarat Titans' Struggles in the IPL 2026 Final
In the IPL 2026 final, the Gujarat Titans (GT) recorded some disappointing statistics due to a lackluster batting performance against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the defending champions. The team's top order, including captain Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler, faltered, resulting in a total of 155/8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, with Washington Sundar's fifty being the highlight.
Unfortunate Milestones for the Titans
This match marked the fourth occasion this season where GT's top three batsmen were dismissed during the powerplay, with three of these occurrences against RCB. Additionally, the Titans experienced an unusually long wait to hit their first six of the innings. Arshad Khan finally broke the drought with a six off Krunal Pandya in the 13th over, which was the longest any team had waited for their first six this season. This six was also the first boundary for GT since Nishant Sindhu's four in the sixth over, resulting in a staggering 40-ball gap between boundaries, the longest in an IPL final.
A Silver Lining for Gujarat Titans
Despite the setbacks, GT can find some hope in the fact that sub-160 totals have been successfully defended four times in IPL finals. This includes three instances by Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2013, 2017, and 2019, and once by Deccan Chargers in 2009. The lowest successful total recorded in IPL 2026 was 159/6 by Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Lucknow Super Giants. In GT's innings, Washington Sundar scored 50 runs off 37 balls, while Nishant Sindhu contributed 20 runs off 18 balls. Rasikh Salam Dar (3/27), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/29), and Josh Hazlewood (2/39) were the standout bowlers for RCB.
