In Patacharkuchi, a grand bronze bust of the legendary musician Dr. Bhupen Hazarika is nearing completion and will soon be unveiled. Standing at 13 feet tall and crafted from 4,000 kilograms of bronze, this statue is expected to be the largest of its kind in Northeast India. The unveiling ceremony, likely to be attended by the Chief Minister, will take place near the Patacharkuchi police station. The surrounding area will be named “Sudha-Tirtha,” and the Pragjyotish Club, celebrating its 36th anniversary, has dedicated its office building to Hazarika. This tribute promises to be a significant attraction for both locals and visitors.

Celebrating a Musical Legend


Patacharkuchi, July 25: In honor of the birth centenary of the iconic musician Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, the Pragjyoti Club in Bajali district is set to unveil a magnificent bronze bust near the Patacharkuchi police station, situated along the banks of the Kaldia River.


This impressive bust, towering at 13 feet and weighing around 4,000 kilograms, is nearing its completion and is anticipated to be inaugurated shortly, with the Chief Minister expected to officiate the unveiling. Once revealed, the statue is projected to attract both local residents and tourists.


Claimed to be the largest bronze sculpture in the Northeast, this statue is being crafted by a team led by Muktar Mallik, with renowned sculptor Alakesh Parashar from Tezpur dedicating nearly a year to its design.


The bust has already garnered visits from various esteemed artists and notable figures from the state, who have expressed their approval of the craftsmanship.


The area surrounding the bust will be named “Sudha-Tirtha,” a title proposed by the distinguished writer Phanindra Kumar Dev Choudhury.


Additionally, the Pragjyotish Club of Patacharkuchi is celebrating its 36th anniversary, and its three-story office building has been designated as “Bhupen Hazarika Bhawan.”
