The Secretary of State in Maine confirmed that Platner has filed the necessary paperwork to withdraw his name from the November ballot, just two days after he publicly expressed his intention to step back from the race.

In a letter shared on social media, Platner articulated the populist ideals that contributed to his swift ascent in Maine's political landscape, garnering considerable support statewide. Instead of abandoning the political movement he initiated, he encouraged his followers to continue advocating for it. In his letter, Platner emphasized the public's yearning for change and the need to address a dysfunctional system, urging that the democratic process must progress. He highlighted the over 156,000 votes he received during the June 9 primary, asserting that while his name was on the ballot, it ultimately represented the will of the Maine voters. "On June 9th, 156,084 Mainers voted for a new kind of politics. One that is representative of people down here in the real world – not billionaires, oligarchs, or the political establishment," he stated. He further noted that voters were seeking dignity, strong unions, and the hope of homeownership.

Interestingly, his letter did not address the recent sexual assault allegations that led to the suspension of his campaign.
