Government Meeting Addresses Fuel Supply Concerns

Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for frugality, an informal group of ministers (IGOM) convened on Monday to discuss the ongoing crisis in West Asia. Led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the meeting reiterated the government's message that there is no need for panic. However, in light of the significant reduction in fuel supply due to the blockade of the Hormuz Strait, conserving resources has become essential.

Immediately after the meeting, Singh took to social media to urge citizens to remain calm and avoid any form of anxiety, assuring that the government is taking concrete steps to prevent disruptions in supply chains. He emphasized that Prime Minister Modi's appeal for collective participation from the public is a crucial step towards ensuring self-reliance and energy security in facing global challenges. This broad message from the Prime Minister highlights the importance of conservation during these challenging times.

Attendees at the meeting included notable figures such as Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas; Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister of Shipping; K. Ram Mohan Naidu, Minister of Civil Aviation; Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office; Kiren Rijiju, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs; and JP Nadda, Minister of Health. An inter-ministerial briefing organized by government officials also aimed to alleviate any concerns, although the stock market experienced significant fluctuations following the Prime Minister's appeal on Sunday.

Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum, informed the media that despite price volatility in the global market, the government is striving to ensure minimal inconvenience for consumers. Refineries are operating at optimal levels, and there have been no reports of fuel shortages at retail outlets or LPG distribution centers.
