Government's Crackdown on OTT Platforms


New Delhi: On Tuesday, officials announced that the government has prohibited five OTT platforms from operating due to the distribution of obscene material.


The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has taken steps to block access to MoodXVIP, Koyal Playpro, Digi Movieplex, Feel, and Jugnu, following established protocols.


This action involves instructing internet service providers to restrict access to these platforms in accordance with the Information Technology Rules 2021 and laws pertaining to obscenity.


The regulations are designed to uphold public decency, protect national interests, and ensure ethical journalism practices on digital platforms.


This move is in line with Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, which empowers the government to restrict online content for various justifiable reasons.
