Government Sanctions 44 Projects Worth ₹5,700 Crore for North East Development

New Delhi, Dec 4: The Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced that 44 projects, amounting to approximately ₹5,700 crore, have been approved under the Prime Minister's Development Initiative for the North East Region (PM-DevINE). He emphasized the Ministry's commitment to effectively utilizing the allocated funds.
During a meeting with the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Scindia highlighted the government's dedication to fostering swift, transparent, and results-driven development in the area, with PM-DevINE acting as a crucial driver for both infrastructure and socio-economic progress.
He noted that the initiative has a total budget of ₹6,600 crore for the fiscal years 2022-2023 to 2025-2026, with 44 projects sanctioned as of October 31, 2025, valued at around ₹5,700 crore.
"Out of the approved projects, three, costing approximately ₹176 crore, have been completed, while 41 projects worth about ₹5,500 crore are currently underway. Additionally, projects worth ₹111 crore have received in-principle approval, and more initiatives worth ₹625 crore are in the pipeline," Scindia stated, assuring that the Ministry is on track to fully utilize the scheme's budget.
The Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) described this initiative as the "most significant scheme of the ministry," which was introduced in the Union Budget for 2022-2023, as per an official statement.
In response to inquiries from committee members, Scindia provided detailed information regarding ongoing projects in Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Tripura.
Addressing a proposal for tourism development in Tripura, he revealed plans to create tourist circuits with top-notch facilities across all northeastern states, based on locations identified in collaboration with state governments.
Initially, the Sohra Circuit in Meghalaya and the Matabari Circuit in Tripura will be developed as pilot projects.
In addition to enhancing infrastructure, the tourist circuit initiative will prioritize capacity-building to ensure a skilled workforce is available to support tourism growth and improve the overall visitor experience.
