Guwahati, May 3: The government announced that approximately 5.96 lakh PNG connections have been successfully gasified, with infrastructure established for an additional 2.68 lakh connections, bringing the total to 8.64 lakh connections.

Additionally, around 6.66 lakh customers have signed up for new connections. As of May 1, over 43,350 PNG users have opted to surrender their LPG connections, according to the Petroleum Ministry.

Since April 2026, more than 22.78 lakh 5-Kg FTL cylinders have been distributed.

The ministry reported that since April 3, public sector oil marketing companies (PSU OMCs) have conducted over 9,980 awareness camps for 5-Kg FTL cylinders, resulting in the sale of more than 1,71,000 units.

In terms of commercial LPG, a total of 2,05,849 MT (equivalent to over 108.34 lakh of 19-Kg LPG cylinders) has been sold since April 2026. Additionally, PSU OMCs have sold 10,698 MT of Auto LPG in the past month.

The gas allocation for fertilizer plants has been increased to nearly 98% of their average six-month consumption.

All refineries are functioning at optimal capacity with sufficient crude inventories, and adequate stocks of petrol and diesel are being maintained. Domestic LPG production from refineries has been ramped up to meet local demand.

Furthermore, an inter-ministerial Joint Working Group (JWG) has been established to ensure a steady supply of petrochemical feedstock for the domestic market.

Since April 9, 2026, refineries in Mumbai, Kochi, Vizag, Chennai, Mathura, and Gujarat have sold over 10,000 MT of propylene and more than 1,200 MT of Butyl Acrylate to the Chemical, Pharma, and Paint industries. The government confirmed that all retail outlets are functioning normally nationwide.

“Panic buying has been noted at some retail locations due to unfounded rumors. However, it has been clarified that there are sufficient stocks of petrol and diesel available at all petrol stations across the country. The regular retail prices for petrol and diesel remain unchanged, with no price hikes at PSU OMCs,” the government stated.
