Significant Refunds Processed by National Consumer Helpline
New Delhi, July 4: The government announced on Friday that the National Consumer Helpline (NCH) has successfully processed refunds totaling Rs 7.14 crore for consumers over the past two months.
This achievement spans 30 different sectors, effectively resolving 15,426 consumer complaints regarding refund requests, as reported by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs.
Among these, the e-commerce sector had the highest number of complaints, with 8,919 grievances leading to refunds of Rs 3.69 crore.
The travel and tourism sector followed, with refunds amounting to Rs 81 lakh.
Complaints regarding e-commerce refunds were received from all over the country, with Uttar Pradesh contributing the most at 1,242 complaints. Even smaller regions like Sikkim and Dadra & Nagar Haveli reported issues, showcasing the NCH's effectiveness as a nationwide consumer grievance platform, according to the ministry.
“The Rs 7.14 crore in refunds facilitated between April 25 and June 30, 2025, demonstrates the helpline's efficiency and responsiveness, bolstered by the expansion of collaboration with partners and strong engagement with stakeholders,” the Department stated.
The rise in grievances and cases registered at NCH also reflects the platform's growing reach, particularly through digital channels such as phone calls, the web portal, WhatsApp, the NCH App, UMANG, CPGRAMS, SMS, Email, and AI-driven chatbots.
This underscores the NCH's essential role in providing timely and hassle-free grievance resolution, reinforcing its status as a reliable pre-litigation platform that promotes consumer welfare and transparency in the marketplace.
The helpline serves as a single access point for consumers nationwide to address grievances before litigation. Consumers can file complaints in 17 languages via the toll-free number 1915.
The Department reiterated its dedication to enhancing the consumer protection framework and encourages all consumers to utilize the helpline actively to protect their rights and obtain timely resolutions. The NCH is pivotal in swiftly and amicably resolving consumer issues, thereby alleviating the load on Consumer Commissions under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
