Clarification on Misinformation

New Delhi: On Saturday, the Indian government dismissed allegations that a drone strike had targeted the Nankana Sahib gurdwara in Pakistan.

The PIB Fact Check Unit stated, "A video circulating on social media falsely claims that India conducted a drone attack on the Nankana Sahib gurdwara. This assertion is entirely untrue."

The government emphasized that such misinformation aims to incite communal discord within India.

Nankana Sahib holds significant importance as the birthplace of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, and is a major pilgrimage site for Sikhs.

Additionally, the government rejected claims regarding an Indian pilot ejecting from a fighter jet in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and the capture of a female Air Force pilot.

It also refuted allegations that a cyberattack from Pakistan had incapacitated India's power grid and that the Mumbai-Delhi flight route had been temporarily suspended.

"These assertions are false," the government reiterated.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has announced an extension of the temporary closure of 25 segments of Air Traffic Service (ATS) routes in the Delhi and Mumbai Flight Information Regions for operational reasons.

Moreover, the government clarified that an old video depicting Indian soldiers in tears actually shows students from a private defense coaching center celebrating their recruitment into the Army.

The PIB Fact Check Unit noted that this video was posted on Instagram on April 27 and is unrelated to any military activities.

"The footage features students from a private coaching institute rejoicing over their successful enlistment in the Indian Army, with the youth expressing their emotions upon receiving the good news," it stated.

The government also dismissed reports from some foreign media about ten explosions occurring near the Srinagar airport on Friday, as well as separate claims of blasts near Jaipur airport.

"These reports are unfounded. Always rely on official sources for accurate information," a government representative advised.

Lastly, the PIB Fact Check Unit stated that claims regarding the destruction of Indian army posts are incorrect, and a video shared in this context dates back to 2020.

"This video is outdated and NOT related to any recent events following Operation Sindoor. It was initially uploaded to YouTube on November 15, 2020," it concluded.
