Parliamentary Stalemate and Government's Response
As the final week of the monsoon session begins, efforts are underway to resolve the ongoing deadlock in Parliament. Kiren Rijiju, the Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, stated that the central government is ready to engage in discussions regarding student-related issues, with Home Minister Amit Shah prepared to respond. Speaking to the media within the Parliament premises, Rijiju emphasized that the government has proposed a comprehensive discussion but urged the opposition to allow the proceedings to continue. He insisted that the opposition should listen to Shah's responses and participate in the discussions.
The minister clarified that the government's stance is clear: it is willing to have an in-depth discussion about student movements and related activities. He further remarked that the opposition should refrain from causing disruptions during the discussions and should instead listen to the Home Minister's statements. Once the dialogue commences, it should be thoroughly explored.
Repeatedly, the opposition has criticized the government for Shah's absence in Parliament. Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, claimed that the Home Minister's absence indicates his responsibility for the violence that occurred on July 20, during the 'Chalo Parliament' march by protesters from the 'Cockroach Public Party' (CJP). Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi mentioned that while he hasn't seen Shah's statement, discussions in their meetings have focused on police actions and brutality against students. There has been no concrete response regarding whether the Home Minister will address these issues or provide clarification on the government's stance regarding corruption and mismanagement in the Ayodhya Ram Temple Trust.
The entire INDIA alliance has supported Gandhi in this matter, consistently disrupting parliamentary proceedings. Earlier in the day, opposition MPs protested in front of the Makar gate of Parliament, holding placards and chanting slogans against Shah. Later, Gandhi's sister and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra stated that the deadlock in Parliament will persist until Shah provides answers; other opposition leaders echoed this sentiment. The monsoon session of Parliament is set to conclude on August 13.
