Government Official Assaulted in Himachal Pradesh for Refusing Bribe
Assault on Patwari in Chamba District
CHAMBA:
A shocking incident has unfolded in Himachal Pradesh, where a patwari was reportedly attacked after he declined to accept a bribe. This unusual event occurred in the Chamba district, specifically within the Sillaghat patwar circle, where the government employee faced aggression inside his office for refusing to create a false report in exchange for money.
As per police reports, the victim, identified as Mukesh Kumar, filed a complaint detailing the events of January 2. The accused allegedly pressured him to falsify an official document. When the patwari turned down the offer, the individual attempted to entice him with cash, placing the money directly on his desk.
The situation escalated quickly after the bribe was rejected. Infuriated by the refusal, the accused reportedly dragged the patwari from his office and assaulted him, causing a scene in the workplace.
Upon hearing the disturbance, a watchman rushed to help but was also threatened by the assailant, resulting in the watchman's clothing being torn during the altercation. The perpetrator has been identified as Gauri Ram.
Chamba's Superintendent of Police, Vijay Saklani, confirmed the incident, stating that a case has been filed. He noted, “We have received a complaint regarding an attack on a government employee while on duty, along with allegations of an attempted bribe. The investigation is ongoing.”
This incident has reignited concerns regarding the safety of government officials and the audacity of individuals attempting to exploit the system.
