Intensive Awareness Initiative Against Child Marriage

New Delhi, Dec 3: The Union government is preparing to kick off a focused 100-day awareness initiative aimed at eliminating child marriage in India, as announced by the Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD) on Wednesday.

This campaign will officially commence tomorrow at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, coinciding with the one-year anniversary of the Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat initiative, which was launched by the WCD on November 27, 2024.

Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Annpurna Devi, expressed, “Let every daughter’s aspirations be realized, and may they achieve self-sufficiency. Our united effort to eradicate harmful practices like child marriage is crucial. With increased awareness, every daughter in India will thrive confidently, safely, and empowered. Together, we can create a child marriage-free India.”

The 100-day initiative, running from November 27, 2025, to March 8, 2026, is structured into three distinct phases aimed at energizing communities and fostering ongoing action.

The initial phase will focus on raising awareness in educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities, through debates, essay contests, interactive sessions, and pledge ceremonies. The second phase will involve engaging faith leaders, community influencers, and marriage service providers to amplify messages regarding child rights, safety, and empowerment.

In the final phase, local governance bodies such as gram panchayats and municipal wards will be encouraged to adopt resolutions declaring their areas as child-marriage-free.

This national campaign will include a pledge to end child marriage, a specially created film highlighting inspiring stories of change from across the nation, and testimonials from frontline advocates, celebrating collective achievements and building momentum for the next phase of the mission.

The initiative will be executed in close collaboration with the Ministries of Health and Family Welfare, Panchayati Raj, Rural Development, and Education, ensuring effective coordination and extensive grassroots outreach.

Through this 100-day campaign, the Ministry invites citizens, organizations, and community leaders nationwide to participate in this movement and reaffirm India’s dedication to creating a child marriage-free Bharat.
