Government Initiatives for Workers: Free Insurance and Pension Plans

The Indian government has launched initiatives to support unorganized workers through the E-Shram portal, offering free accident insurance of up to ₹2 lakh and pension security via the PM-SYM scheme. Workers aged 16-59 can register to access these benefits, which aim to provide social security and financial stability. The registration process is straightforward, requiring basic documents like an Aadhaar card and bank account. District officials are urging eligible workers to take advantage of these opportunities to secure their future.

District Manager's Appeal: Register on E-Shram Portal for Free Insurance

Workers in the unorganized sector have received encouraging news. By registering on the E-Shram portal, they can avail themselves of free accident insurance coverage of up to ₹2 lakh. If a registered worker suffers an accident leading to death or permanent disability, they will receive this insurance benefit. Additionally, this registration allows workers to access various other welfare schemes provided by the government. It is important to note that unorganized workers aged between 16 and 59 years, who do not pay income tax and are not members of ESI, PF, or NPS schemes, are eligible for this initiative. There has been a long-standing demand for various facilities and provisions for unorganized workers, and many organizations are actively working on this issue. Although the government has introduced several schemes and innovations over time, the benefits often do not reach the intended workers.

Prime Minister's Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana (PM-SYM)

This scheme aims to provide pension security to workers in the unorganized sector. Eligible workers include rickshaw pullers, vendors, laborers, domestic workers, tailors, pan shop owners, and others whose age ranges from 18 to 40 years and whose monthly income is ₹15,000 or less. To enroll, they need an Aadhaar card and a bank account. The central government will contribute equally to this pension scheme, which guarantees a minimum monthly pension of ₹3,000 for life starting at the age of 60.

Eligibility and Registration Process

Kamlesh Kumar Sharma, the District Manager of CSC, clarified that any unorganized worker aged 18 to 40 without an EPFO or ESIC account is eligible for registration. To register, individuals must visit the nearest Common Service Center (CSC) with their Aadhaar card, bank passbook, and mobile number.

As of now, in Dausa district, there are 401,233 beneficiaries registered under the E-Shram scheme and 3,535 under the PM-SYM scheme.

How to Register

Unorganized workers can register for both schemes by visiting their nearest Common Service Center (CSC) or E-Mitra. They should bring their Aadhaar card, mobile number (for OTP verification), bank passbook, and other necessary documents.

Official Statement

The government aims to ensure that no worker in the unorganized sector is deprived of social security. Through the E-Shram and Maandhan schemes, we are connecting workers to future pensions and providing them with a safety net of ₹2 lakh. I urge all eligible workers in my district to register at their nearest CSC or E-Mitra as soon as possible.
