Formation of a New Panel to Address Demographic Concerns

The government has established a panel to investigate unusual demographic changes in the country, attributed to infiltration and other factors. Union Home Minister Amit Shah shared this development on social media, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement on August 15, 2025. Shah emphasized that illegal demographic shifts pose significant challenges to both the present and future of any nation.

He further noted that to tackle this challenge, Prime Minister Modi had announced the formation of a 'High-Level Committee on Demographic Changes' on August 15, 2025. Shah expressed his pleasure in announcing that the government has now constituted this committee. The panel will be chaired by retired Justice Prakash Prabhakar Naolekar and will include the Census Commissioner, along with retired IAS officer Durga Shankar Mishra, retired IPS officer Balaji Srivastava, and Dr. Shamika Ravi as members. The Joint Secretary (Foreign-I) from the Home Ministry will serve as the committee's secretary.

Highlighting the significance of demographic changes as a major concern for the nation, Home Minister Shah stated that the committee will conduct a thorough assessment and propose solutions. He added that demographic changes are a serious issue linked not only to national sovereignty but also to national security, law and order, profound shifts in social structure, and the protection of tribal communities. This committee will comprehensively evaluate demographic changes occurring across India due to illegal immigration and other unnatural causes, analyze patterns of unusual population transfers among religious and social communities, and present a planned and timely solution.
