Dismissal of Accused in APSC Scam

Guwahati, July 25:  The State government has officially dismissed 29 individuals involved in the APSC cash-for-jobs scandal who were previously on probation, following new simplified orders.

Recently, a division bench of the Gauhati High Court partially overturned a prior ruling from a single bench that had dismissed writ petitions from candidates contesting their discharge orders.

Regarding the probationers, the court ruled that their discharge orders should be replaced with a simplified directive stating they are unfit for confirmation.

In accordance with this ruling, the Personnel department has issued dismissal orders indicating that these individuals were deemed “not fit for confirmation.”

Sources indicate that the government is also contemplating the reinstatement of an additional 20 accused officers.

“Subsequently, suspension and departmental actions will be initiated, which may lead to their dismissal from service,” the sources added.

The high court's decision to set aside the dismissal orders allows the government to initiate departmental and criminal proceedings, aiming for a conclusive outcome.

It was noted that procedural errors by the government contributed to the court's decision in favor of the accused candidates.
