Government Denies Claims of International Pressure Behind Operation Sindoor

Clarification on Operation Sindoor

The central government has refuted allegations suggesting that the announcement of Operation Sindoor was made under international pressure. In response to a question from Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman, Kirti Vardhan Singh, the Minister of State for External Affairs, clarified that the operation was initiated as a response to a brutal cross-border terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The primary goal of Operation Sindoor is to dismantle terrorist infrastructure and neutralize potential threats.

Suman had inquired, "Is it true that the announcement of Operation Sindoor was made due to international pressure?"

In his response, Minister Vardhan emphasized that the operation was a direct reaction to the heinous attack orchestrated by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists. He reiterated that the aim was to eliminate terrorist networks and thwart any potential infiltration into India. The government further stated that India's actions were focused, measured, and not intended to escalate tensions.

The center clarified that the response to the Pakistani assault was a "strong and decisive reaction from the Indian armed forces."

Vardhan noted that Pakistan attempted to target not only military installations but also civilian areas in India. These provocative and escalatory actions from Pakistan were met with a robust and decisive response from the Indian armed forces, resulting in significant losses for the Pakistani military. It was also mentioned that on May 10, 2025, the Director General of Military Operations from Pakistan requested his Indian counterpart to cease fire and military activities, to which an agreement was reached later that same day.

Opposition Demands Discussion in Parliament

The opposition alliance, known as INDIA, is demanding a discussion in Parliament regarding Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Since the commencement of the monsoon session, both houses of Parliament have experienced significant disruptions, leading to adjournments shortly after sessions began. The ongoing demands from the opposition to address key national issues, including Operation Sindoor, the Pahalgam attack, and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Bihar voter list, have contributed to the interruptions. The monsoon session of Parliament began on July 21 and is scheduled to continue until August 21.
