Significant Financial Aid for Flood-Affected Regions

New Delhi: On Thursday, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced a financial package of ₹1,066.80 crore to assist six states severely impacted by floods and landslides, namely Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Kerala, and Uttarakhand.

Among these states, Assam received the largest share of ₹375.60 crore, while Manipur was allocated ₹29.20 crore, Meghalaya ₹30.40 crore, Mizoram ₹22.80 crore, Kerala ₹153.20 crore, and Uttarakhand ₹455.60 crore, all sourced from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), according to a statement from the Ministry.

These regions have faced significant challenges due to intense rainfall, leading to floods and landslides during the southwest monsoon season.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah shared on X that over ₹8,000 crore has been distributed from SDRF/NDRF funds to 19 states this year. He emphasized that beyond financial support, logistical assistance, including the deployment of necessary NDRF, Army, and Air Force personnel, has been a top priority.

Amit Shah previously stated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the government is dedicated to offering comprehensive support to states affected by floods, landslides, and cloudbursts.

So far this year, the Centre has disbursed ₹6,166.00 crore from SDRF to 14 states and ₹1,988.91 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to 12 states.

Additionally, ₹726.20 crore has been allocated from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to five states, and ₹17.55 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to two states, as per the statement.

The Central government has also ensured logistical support, deploying necessary NDRF teams, Army units, and Air Force assistance to all affected areas.

Currently, 104 NDRF teams are engaged in rescue and relief operations across 21 States/UT during this monsoon season.

The Indian Army has initiated extensive Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations under 'Operation Jal Rahat 2', coordinating efforts in Nagaland, Assam, and Manipur.

On Thursday, the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur formally requested Army assistance for immediate flood relief in Singrijan Colony, one of the most severely impacted locations.

In Upper Assam, the Dhansiri River in Golaghat district has exceeded danger levels. Although water levels are now decreasing, the Army is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared to act if necessary.

In Manipur, the Nambol River, which flows through Imphal West and Bishnupur districts, has also surpassed danger levels. While floodwaters are receding, the Army continues to actively participate in relief efforts alongside civil authorities.
