Parliamentary Stalemate May End
There are indications that the deadlock in Parliament could be resolved as the government has consented to hold a special debate on 'Operation Sindoor' starting Monday. This agreement was reached following a meeting called by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, which included leaders from all parties to discuss the functioning of the house. Efforts were made during the meeting to build a consensus. Among those present were Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.
Opposition's Demand for Special Discussion
The opposition had requested a special discussion rather than one under Rule 193, as the latter would imply that the government has introduced a proposal and celebrated the operation. According to sources, the leaders also discussed the ongoing revision of the voter list in Bihar and allegations against Allahabad High Court Judge Yashwant Verma, including his impeachment. Additionally, Rahul Gandhi inquired about when the discussion on the special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list in the electoral state of Bihar would take place.
Protests Continue Against Voter List Revision
Earlier today, Kharge participated in a protest by MPs from the India Block against the ongoing special intensive revision of the voter list in Bihar. This protest, which has been held for five consecutive days at the Makar Dwar of Parliament, saw participation from several senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. The MPs marched from the Gandhi statue located in the Parliament complex before the day's session, carrying various posters and a large banner that read, 'Sir, an attack on democracy.'
