Glenn Maxwell Withdraws from IPL Auction After Punjab Kings Release
Maxwell's Decision to Skip IPL Auction
Glenn Maxwell, the Australian all-rounder, has decided to forgo participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) auction following his release from Punjab Kings (PBKS) ahead of the 2026 season. He announced this choice through an official statement, describing it as a challenging yet well-considered decision. Last season, Punjab Kings acquired him for Rs 4.2 crore, but after suffering a finger fracture during the 2025 season, he was replaced by fellow Australian all-rounder Mitchell Owen, who has been retained.
Maxwell's Reflections on His IPL Journey
In a heartfelt message on Instagram, Maxwell shared, "After many unforgettable seasons in the IPL, I've decided not to put my name into the auction this year. It's a significant decision, made with immense gratitude for everything this league has provided me." He emphasized the IPL's crucial role in his development as both a cricketer and an individual, stating, "The IPL has helped shape me as a cricketer and as a person. I've been fortunate to play alongside world-class teammates, represent amazing franchises, and perform in front of passionate fans. The memories, challenges, and vibrant energy of India will remain with me forever. Thank you for all your support over the years; hopefully, I will see you soon. Cheers, Maxi."
