Glenn Maxwell Retires from ODIs to Focus on T20 Cricket
Maxwell's Retirement Announcement
On June 2, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell declared his retirement from One Day Internationals (ODIs). He has decided to shift his focus entirely to T20 cricket, marking the end of his ODI career. The upcoming T20 World Cup, set to take place in 2026 in India and Sri Lanka, is now his primary goal. Maxwell expressed his intention to concentrate on T20 tournaments, the Big Bash League, and various global franchise leagues.
Maxwell's Reflections on His Decision
“I felt like I was letting the team down a little bit with how my body was reacting to the conditions. When I slow down, it becomes harder to get back up. 20 overs feels enough for me to give my 100% now,” Maxwell shared.
Maxwell's ODI Career Highlights
Maxwell's ODI career statistics highlight his exceptional batting skills, having scored 3,990 runs in 149 innings with an impressive strike rate of 126.71. His highest score of 201* came against Afghanistan during the 2023 World Cup in India, where he played a crucial role in leading Australia to victory after a shaky start. Additionally, he has taken 77 wickets in his ODI career, maintaining an economy rate of 5.46, showcasing his value as a bowler.
Challenges in IPL 2025
In the IPL 2025 season, Maxwell was picked up by the Punjab Kings for 4.20 crores after being released by RCB. Unfortunately, he struggled to make a significant impact, managing only 48 runs across 6 innings and taking 4 wickets. His performance was further hampered by a finger injury that sidelined him.
