Arrest of Harshvardhan Jain
Harshvardhan Jain, a resident of Kavi Nagar in Ghaziabad, has been apprehended on charges of allegedly operating a fraudulent embassy. Reports indicate that he possessed 12 diplomatic passports and had traveled to around 40 countries over the last decade. Jain was reportedly managing a commercial consulate and claimed to be a diplomat from a non-existent entity called West Antarctica.
Investigation by UP STF
The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UP STF) has initiated the process to obtain a Blue Corner notice against Jain and has applied for his police custody to investigate his foreign activities and financial connections. This action follows the discovery of evidence suggesting that between 2002 and 2004, a Turkish national named Syed Ehsan Ali allegedly conducted financial transactions totaling ₹20 crore with Jain. Additionally, a comprehensive list of Jain's bank accounts has been uncovered, revealing 12 accounts in India, five in Dubai, two in London, and one in Mauritius.
International Travels and Fraudulent Activities
According to reports from a media outlet, Jain has traveled to various countries including the UK, UAE, Mauritius, Turkey, France, Italy, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Switzerland, Poland, Sri Lanka, and Belgium. The Noida unit of the STF has indicated that the investigation has uncovered Jain's involvement in fraudulent dealings, where he falsely promised job placements to companies and individuals abroad.
