German Footballers Provide Free Transport for Fans Amid Fare Hikes in the USA
Support for Fans Amid Rising Transport Costs
In a commendable move, Germany's football team is stepping in to assist their supporters facing unexpected increases in public transport fares in the USA. The German Football Association has organized buses to transport 600 fans from New York to New Jersey. The association stated, 'Due to the significant rise in bus and train fares in New York during the World Cup, the German national team players are facilitating free travel for 600 fans to attend the final group match.' This generous initiative has delighted German supporters, who are expressing their gratitude and wishing the team success in the tournament.
Significant Increases in Train and Bus Fares
The concern arises from Germany's last group match in Group E against Ecuador, scheduled for June 25 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Typically, the train fare from New York to New Jersey is around $12.90. However, during the World Cup, it surged to an astonishing $150 before being reduced to $98. Additionally, shuttle bus fares skyrocketed to $80, later adjusted to $20. New Jersey's Governor has pointed out that FIFA did not offer any subsidies for fans, leading to these exorbitant fare increases.
FIFA's Silence on Transport Fare Hikes
FIFA has faced criticism for not addressing various issues, including a player being questioned at the airport, support staff being denied visas, and a referee being barred entry. The organization has also remained silent regarding the drastic rise in public transport fares, which has frustrated many football fans who traveled for the World Cup.
