Gaurav Gogoi's Emotional Return to Jorhat as APCC President

Gaurav Gogoi's Homecoming
Jorhat, May 31: Gaurav Gogoi, the newly appointed president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), made his first visit to his Lok Sabha constituency since assuming leadership of the party's state unit.
His arrival was celebrated with an emotional reception, showcasing immense support as he stepped into the political stronghold of his late father, former chief minister Tarun Gogoi.
Upon landing at Rowriah Airport in Jorhat from Delhi, Gogoi was greeted by a large crowd of enthusiastic Congress supporters and well-wishers. Traditional songs filled the air as party members draped him with gamochas and presented bouquets, creating a vibrant atmosphere both at the airport and on the streets.
Addressing the crowd at Jorhat Stadium, where he was welcomed with lively Bihu and Jhumur dances, Gaurav expressed, “My late father began his political journey here in Jorhat, and I am honored to follow in his footsteps. I come not just as a leader but as a son seeking blessings from my roots. I know he is watching over us and smiling.”
After the grand reception, Gaurav visited his ancestral home in Nazir Ali, Jorhat, where he took a moment to pay homage to his father's portrait, reaffirming his dedication to the principles of people-centric politics that his father championed.
“Today transcends a mere political event for me; it is a heartfelt homecoming. The love and support from the people of Jorhat and Assam have been truly overwhelming. We are already gearing up for the 2026 Assembly elections, ready to combat corruption, syndicates, and the politics of fear. The real fight starts now,” he stated.
Gogoi also voiced his concerns regarding ongoing issues in Assam, such as the artificial floods in Guwahati and the severe flooding in Lakhimpur’s Ranganadi area. “The state government must be held accountable. The citizens deserve solutions, not excuses,” he emphasized.
He was joined on this visit by senior Congress leaders, including the Leader of Opposition, Debabrata Saikia, along with MLAs Rekibuddin Ahmed and Bhaskar Barua, as well as the newly appointed executive presidents of the APCC.
In a related development, political tensions escalated in the town as members of the Bir Lachit Sena made strong statements distancing themselves from mainstream politicians.
A spokesperson declared, “We do not align with any political party. Whether it’s Gaurav Gogoi or Himanta Biswa Sarma, neither represents us. We advocate solely for the rights of the common people. If the administration fails, we will take action.”
Despite these tensions, Gaurav remained committed to his message of unity, democratic values, and public service.
