Jorhat, Apr 9: On Thursday morning, Gaurav Gogoi, the Congress candidate for the Jorhat Assembly seat and the state Congress president, participated in the voting process alongside his mother, Dolly Gogoi, at a significant polling location.


The mother-son pair exercised their voting rights at polling station number 52, situated at Devicharan Barua Higher Secondary Girls’ School.


Both Gaurav and Dolly joined other voters in line, adhering to the necessary protocols while casting their votes.


After voting, Gogoi expressed that the day was particularly meaningful for him.


“I feel fortunate today that my mother, who was unable to vote during the Lok Sabha elections due to health issues, is here with us,” he remarked.


Commenting on the public sentiment, he stated, “Given the enthusiasm displayed by the people, I am confident that everyone will support strong leadership and the ideals of a progressive Assamese society.”


Gogoi emphasized that the election represents broader democratic principles and the hopes of the populace.


“On this voting day, we must consider the aspirations of the people and the values of our democracy. We are thankful for the immense love and support we have received from the public, and I am optimistic about a favorable outcome,” he added.


He also pointed out the growing political awareness among voters, saying, “The people's voice has gained strength, which is a positive development. We, as Assamese, are a proud society and wish to remain bold in our quest for a progressive Assam.”


Before heading to the polling station, Gogoi paid homage to the portrait of his late father, former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, at their home in Nazir Ali.


Reflecting on his father's legacy, he stated, “I have absorbed Assam’s history, culture, and the people's aspirations and challenges from my late father. I aim to uphold his ideals and continue working towards the state's advancement.”


After casting her vote, Dolly Gogoi expressed her contentment, stating that a mother’s blessings are always with her child.


As of the time of this report, Jorhat has recorded a voter turnout of 18.25% by 9 am.
