Gaurav Gogoi Optimistic About Congress Candidacy in Jorhat
Gaurav Gogoi's Candidacy Announcement
Jorhat, Mar 7: Gaurav Gogoi, the president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, expressed optimism regarding the public's reaction to the Congress party's initial candidate list after announcing his candidacy for the Jorhat Assembly seat.
During a press conference in Jorhat, Gogoi noted that the feedback from the community suggests that the party made sound choices in its candidate selections.
“The public's response is crucial for us. Their feedback clearly shows that we have made the right choices. We are not concerned with the actions of the BJP; our focus is on unity and moving forward together,” he remarked, highlighting the warm reception the candidate list has received.
While in Jorhat, Gogoi also laid the groundwork for six development initiatives funded by the Members of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) scheme.
Later that day, at approximately 5:30 PM, the Jorhat District Youth Congress is set to host a bike rally starting from Ward No. 5 of the Jorhat Municipal Board to welcome Gogoi to the District Congress Bhawan.
In the evening, Gogoi plans to engage with party members at the district Congress office.
Addressing reports of some Congress members burning an effigy of Lurinjyoti Gogoi, the joint candidate from the Khowang Assembly constituency, Gogoi reaffirmed the party's support for him.
“The state Congress president is firmly behind Lurinjyoti Gogoi. What more assurance is needed?” he stated, adding that he has requested a report on the incident and promised that appropriate measures would be taken against those responsible.
Regarding a potential alliance with Raijor Dal, Gogoi expressed hope for collaboration with the party.
“We remain optimistic about forming an alliance with Raijor Dal. We have already partnered with several parties and aim to proceed with an inclusive approach. In the near future, we expect everyone to unite and advance together,” he stated.
However, Raijor Dal leader Akhil Gogoi chose not to comment on the alliance directly, indicating he would wait until midnight on Saturday to make a decision.
“Yesterday, Congress met with other political entities without our involvement; this is a matter of our dignity. I will wait until midnight. There’s no point in asking me—you should direct your questions to Gaurav. The decision-making power has been with them since February 19, and I haven’t had the opportunity to engage,” Akhil Gogoi remarked.
These developments occur as opposition parties in Assam continue discussions ahead of the upcoming elections, with ongoing talks about a broader coalition as they evaluate their strategies in the coming days.
