Gaurav Gogoi's Campaign Kickoff

Nalbari, Jan 18: On Sunday, Gaurav Gogoi, the president of the Assam Congress, embarked on an extensive election campaign throughout the Hajo–Sualkuchi Assembly constituency. His efforts included engaging with voters through various public interactions while delivering a pointed critique of the BJP-led state administration.

The campaign commenced with a spiritual touch as Gogoi visited the Ganesh Temple in Agyathuri to seek blessings before initiating his outreach activities.

Following this, Congress supporters organized a bike rally that accompanied him to Sualkuchi, transforming the journey into a demonstration of unity and strength as the elections approach.

During the rally, Gogoi accused the BJP government, under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, of failing the people of Assam. He claimed that the state's resources and institutions have been systematically undermined.

“In the guise of development, the very foundations of Assam are being compromised. While citizens grapple with escalating prices and diminishing opportunities, those in power are solely focused on their own enrichment,” Gogoi stated, emphasizing the Congress party's commitment to restoring accountability and fostering inclusive governance.

A notable highlight of the day was Gogoi's participation in a tribute event at Sualkuchi Medical Chowk, honoring the legendary Assamese musician Zubeen Garg.

While paying tribute, Gogoi acknowledged Garg’s significant impact on Assam’s cultural landscape, asserting that any perceived injustice against cultural figures resonates deeply with the populace, particularly women.

After the tribute, Gogoi led a procession from Sualkuchi Medical Chowk to Rajgarh Shankar Temple Hatisatra, where he continued to engage with local residents.

He also took the time to converse with senior citizens at various spots, attentively listening to their concerns regarding healthcare, pensions, unemployment, and the rising cost of living.

Several senior Congress leaders and party workers accompanied Gogoi throughout the campaign.

In a statement to party supporters, former Hajo MLA Dipen Pathak remarked on the growing public discontent towards the BJP, asserting that government handouts cannot replace genuine trust.

“We have begun direct outreach to the public, and the response has been positive. The people of Assam are eager to move past the BJP's misdeeds. Women, in particular, are dissatisfied with Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding issues related to Zubeen Garg. No amount of government assistance can secure their trust or happiness,” Pathak concluded.
