Gaurav Gogoi's Nomination in Jorhat

Jorhat, Mar 23: The Assam Congress president, Gaurav Gogoi, officially submitted his nomination for the Jorhat Assembly seat on Monday, marking his first participation in the state's Assembly elections.

Gogoi, who also serves as the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, commenced his day by visiting various religious sites throughout Jorhat before initiating a roadshow from the Jorhat Stadium.

The event attracted a significant number of supporters and concluded at the District Commissioner's office after nearly three hours.

Prior to filing his nomination, Gogoi engaged in a multi-faith outreach, visiting a gurdwara, Borde Gosani Temple, Macharhat Bor Namghar, Tarajan Mosque, and a church located on Jail Road.

During these visits, he interacted with individuals from diverse communities. "The citizens of Assam are seeking a transparent government, and we are promoting a cleanliness initiative on their behalf," Gogoi stated.

He framed the upcoming election as a pivotal moment for change, asserting, "This election presents a historic chance for the people of Assam to reform politics. The quality of political dialogue in the state has deteriorated in recent years, becoming a topic of concern beyond Assam's borders."

Gogoi emphasized that the party is advocating for a "clean and new greater Assam," encouraging voters to make informed choices.

He also conveyed his best wishes to Congress candidates throughout the Jorhat district, including Titabar's nominee Pran Kurmi and Teok's candidate Pallavi Saikia Gogoi, along with candidates from allied parties.

"Today, numerous Congress candidates have submitted their nominations. I wish them all the best," he remarked.

The APCC chief is set to face off against seasoned BJP politician and incumbent MLA Hitendranath Goswami, who has held the seat for five terms—three consecutively since 1991 as an AGP candidate and twice since 2016 for the BJP.

With the nomination period closing on Monday, the Jorhat constituency is poised for a closely monitored contest, with the Congress party relying on Gogoi's candidacy to rally support in the area.
