Gaurav Gogoi Criticizes Assam CM for Corporate Favoritism

Gogoi's Accusations Against Chief Minister
Guwahati, June 13: The president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, Gaurav Gogoi, has launched a fierce critique of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging that he is placing corporate interests above the needs of the populace.
During a press briefing at Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati, Gogoi claimed that Sarma is 'protecting his position by catering to Adani' and accused him of transferring land acquired from local residents to major corporations without adhering to proper procedures.
Gogoi asserted, 'Given Adani's close relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister is excessively accommodating him to secure his political future.'
He further suggested that these actions are part of a broader political maneuver aimed at preventing Sarbananda Sonowal's return as Chief Minister.
Criticizing the state's economic landscape, Gogoi stated, 'We aim to dismantle the monopoly established by Himanta Biswa Sarma in Assam. A select few large contractors receive all the work, while local contractors are overlooked. We demand equal opportunities for everyone to earn a dignified living.'
On the topic of internal party dynamics, Gogoi mentioned his efforts to bolster the Congress organization since taking on the role of APCC president.
'We intend to present a report to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) after evaluating our grassroots framework. Observers have been visiting their designated districts, and the feedback has been encouraging. We expect the final reports by June 18,' he added.
As the 2026 Assembly elections approach, Gogoi called for public backing and highlighted the importance of restoring trust among the citizens.
'People are hesitant to voice their opinions now. Our goal is to empower them to reclaim their voices,' he concluded.
