Gaurav Gogoi Advocates for Enhanced Air Connectivity in Dibrugarh

In a recent session of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Gaurav Gogoi, the new President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, voiced his support for renaming Dibrugarh Airport after Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. However, he raised concerns about the lack of evening flights, which he believes poses challenges for residents needing urgent travel. Gogoi acknowledged the government's efforts but insisted that more needs to be done to enhance connectivity, especially for remote areas. The Dibrugarh Press Club has also called for regular evening flights to support the region's growing industrial significance. This highlights the ongoing dialogue about improving infrastructure in Assam.

Gaurav Gogoi's Legislative Assembly Debut

Guwahati, June 9: Gaurav Gogoi, the newly appointed President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), made his debut in the Assam Legislative Assembly during an important one-day session on Monday.

He expressed his support for the government's initiative to rename Dibrugarh Airport in honor of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, stating, “This is a deserving homage to a monumental figure in Assam's cultural landscape.”

While he welcomed this decision, Gogoi raised a significant concern regarding the insufficient air connectivity from Dibrugarh, particularly during the evening hours.

“Connectivity is a critical issue in Dibrugarh. The absence of evening flights poses serious challenges for individuals needing urgent medical assistance or travel,” Gogoi remarked during his speech.

He acknowledged the government's efforts to improve the situation in certain areas of upper Assam but emphasized that further action is necessary.

“We commend the progress made thus far and hope it continues positively. However, there is still much work to be done. The government must prioritize the needs of the general populace, especially in remote regions,” Gogoi added.

On June 5, the Dibrugarh Press Club (DPC) had previously submitted a memorandum to Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, the Union Minister for Civil Aviation, urging the initiation of regular evening flights from Dibrugarh airport.

The Press Club underscored Dibrugarh’s increasing industrial and strategic significance in Upper Assam and the Northeast, noting that the lack of scheduled evening flights is a significant barrier to development and mobility.
