Gaurav Gogoi's Allegations Against Assam's Chief Minister

Gaurav Gogoi, the Assam Congress president and candidate for the Jorhat constituency in the upcoming assembly elections, launched a strong attack on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday. Speaking to reporters in Karbi Anglong, Gogoi accused Sarma of having connections with the stone, coal, and betel nut mafias. He expressed confidence in the Congress-led coalition, stating that the people of Assam have united against fear and intimidation.

According to Gogoi, the entire state of Assam has come together to oppose the politics of corruption, fear, and threats. He noted that all opposition parties have united, emphasizing that the citizens of Assam will no longer accept leaders involved in illegal activities and mafia operations. Gogoi claimed that Sarma favors individuals linked to these mafias, and even within his own party, leaders who serve the public are sidelined and have their nominations revoked.

The voting for all 126 assembly seats is scheduled for April 9, with the counting of votes taking place on May 4. The contest is primarily between the current BJP-led NDA government and the Congress-led coalition in Assam. The Congress party is contesting in alliance with the Assam Ethnic Council, Raijor Dal, CPI(M), CPI(ML), and the All Party Hill Leaders Conference.

Earlier today, in Karbi Anglong, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of handing over India's agricultural, energy, and data rights to the United States. He claimed that this agreement benefits American farmers and companies while harming Indian farmers, small businesses, and industries.
