Gangster Chandan Mishra Murder: Five Arrested in Kolkata Connection
Arrests Made in Connection with Gangster's Murder
In a significant development regarding the murder of gangster Chandan Mishra at a hospital in Patna, authorities have apprehended at least five individuals from New Town, near Kolkata. Additionally, five more suspects have been taken into custody from the Anandapur area, as reported by police on Saturday.
An official stated that one of the suspects found at a guest house sustained injuries to his leg and was transported via ambulance for medical attention. Earlier in the day, it was revealed that the five arrested were captured during a joint raid conducted by the Bihar and West Bengal police's Special Task Force (STF) in a residential complex in suburban Kolkata.
The police claim that these suspects were providing assistance to the five main accused involved in Mishra's murder. According to CCTV footage, the primary suspect fled the city in a white vehicle, which was later spotted traveling along the Basanti Highway.
The vehicle was subsequently tracked through three police jurisdictions: Anandapur, Kolkata Leather Complex, and Bhangar. The police have commenced interrogating the five detainees, who were residing in two separate flats within the New Town residential complex.
Authorities have confiscated their mobile phones and other documents. They noted that during the raid around 5:38 AM, one individual was arrested outside the residential complex, leading to the capture of four others from inside the two flats.
The official stated, 'These individuals allegedly assisted the criminals in hiding and transporting them. We are examining their phone calls and WhatsApp messages as part of the investigation.'
Chandan Mishra was shot dead by gunmen at a private hospital in Patna on Thursday morning. A resident of Buxar district in Bihar, Mishra was out on parole from prison.
The official added, 'The network tower location of his mobile phone aided in tracking him down. Bihar police will present them in a local court to request a transit remand.'
Alleged CCTV footage of the incident surfaced on social media, showing five armed individuals entering the hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and opening fire on Mishra.
According to police, Mishra was incarcerated at Beur Jail and had gone to the hospital for treatment on parole. He was implicated in 24 criminal cases, including 12 murder charges.
Patna (Central) Superintendent of Police Diksha stated on Friday that an investigation would be conducted to determine how the assailants reached the room where Mishra was admitted without any security checks.
She remarked, 'This raises serious questions about the hospital's security. Five armed attackers reached the second floor without masks, shot at Mishra, and fled the premises. Investigators are looking into the security lapse.'
