Police Encounter Leads to Arrest of Notorious Gangster

In a recent incident in the Kotwali area of Shahjahanpur district, law enforcement apprehended a gangster involved in livestock theft following a shootout that left him injured. A police official provided details about the event on Monday.


The suspect, identified as Saeed Banjara from the Nigohi town, has an extensive criminal record with 68 cases registered against him across various districts.


Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajesh Dwivedi informed that Banjara was spotted on the Pakad Chowki road. Upon receiving a tip-off, police arrived at the scene, prompting Banjara to flee on his motorcycle. However, he lost control and crashed outside the town, leading him to fire at the police while attempting to escape.


In response, the police returned fire, injuring him in the leg, causing him to collapse at the scene. He was subsequently arrested and taken to the hospital for treatment. Dwivedi noted that the accused faces multiple charges under the Gangster Act in addition to the 68 cases, most of which pertain to livestock theft. He personally visited the site to oversee the investigation.
