Fundraising Efforts for Late Actor Eric Dane Spark Controversy
Concerns Over Fundraising for Eric Dane's Family
A fundraising initiative launched after the passing of actor Eric Dane has come under fire on social media, with many questioning the necessity of financial aid for a Hollywood figure. Dane, renowned for his role in the hit series Grey's Anatomy, passed away last week at the age of 53. In the wake of his death, a GoFundMe campaign was initiated to provide for his two teenage daughters. Critics have raised eyebrows over why a successful actor would require such assistance, reminiscent of the backlash faced by James Van Der Beek's GoFundMe earlier this month. According to a source close to Dane's family, he incurred significant medical expenses during his fight against ALS. The fundraising effort, organized by friends, aims to support his children, with the source emphasizing that donations are not mandatory. To date, the campaign has garnered over $355,000, with contributions ranging from $5 to $10, indicating that many donors simply wish to help. Notably, substantial donations have also been made, including $20,000 each from Hailey Bieber and Sam Levinson, the creator of Euphoria. Reports indicate that Dane was single at the time of his passing and had been focusing on his daughters and his former wife, Rebecca Gayheart. A tribute was also shared by his ex-girlfriend in remembrance of him. Similar to the situation with Van Der Beek, whose GoFundMe raised over $2.7 million, Dane's campaign has sparked a mix of support and criticism.
