Incident Overview

In Bhadohi, a notorious criminal who was injured during a police encounter managed to escape after being presented in court. However, he was apprehended again on Tuesday, according to an official report.


Details of the Encounter

Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhimanyu Manglik revealed that on Monday, two individuals, Shivam Bhartiya (19) and Monu Tiwari (22), were arrested following a confrontation near the Ugapur canal in the Aurai police jurisdiction. The police and Special Operations Group (SOG) team had stopped them during a vehicle check, leading to the suspects firing at the officers.


Escape and Recapture

During the exchange of gunfire, Shivam sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg. Both he and Monu were taken into custody. After being treated at the district hospital, they were being transported to jail after their court appearance before Civil Judge Anamika Chauhan when Shivam, limping due to his injury, managed to escape.


Circumstances of the Escape

According to the SP, Shivam hid in the bushes within the court premises and attempted to flee by jumping over a wall, but fell into a deep pit, resulting in a broken leg. Unaware of his criminal status, some individuals took him to a hospital, where police officers on duty recognized him and arrested him again.


Legal Consequences for Police

Manglik noted that both suspects have a total of 19 cases registered against them, including attempted murder and robbery. In light of this incident, three police personnel, including two sub-inspectors and one constable, have been suspended for negligence in duty. A case has also been filed against them at the Gyanpur police station, and departmental action is forthcoming.
