FSSAI Cracks Down on Misleading Claims: Major Brands Take Action

FSSAI's Enforcement Actions Prompt Industry Changes

New Delhi: In response to notices from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), numerous Food Business Operators (FBOs) have swiftly implemented corrective measures to address issues related to misleading claims, product standardization, and labeling discrepancies, as announced on Sunday.

The FSSAI stated, “Major Food Business Operators have acted promptly following our notices. Their actions include retracting misleading label claims and updating product packaging to prioritize consumer safety and regulatory compliance.”

On social media platform X, FSSAI revealed that Honest Innovations For You Private Limited and Heliostone Specialities Private Limited took corrective steps after being cited for using a misleading trademark, subsequently changing their brand names.

Rajasthan Agro and General Industries also faced scrutiny for a misleading trademark and complied by eliminating all deceptive claims and ceasing the use of 'ppm' in their product communications.

Iota Nanotechnology Private Limited was flagged for producing non-standardized products. The company has since removed misleading claims from its labels and halted the production of non-standardized water.

Panchamrutha Industries Private Limited received a notice regarding an electrolyte drink and responded by removing the product from its online platform.

Additionally, FSSAI noted the corrective actions taken by Livyor Ventures Private Limited concerning misleading 'vegan' and 'healthy' claims on its 'Livyor Roasted Edamame Beans' packaging.

The company acknowledged that these claims were mistakenly included due to a lack of understanding of the relevant regulations. They expressed regret for the oversight and assured that such violations would not occur again.

Livyor Ventures has submitted a revised label and committed to destroying existing packaging that contains the non-compliant claims, while also beginning the process of updating their product labels to prevent future misrepresentation.
