FSSAI Takes Strong Measures Against Food Safety Breaches
New Delhi: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has ramped up its enforcement efforts against food safety infractions. Recently, it suspended the license of Matri Drinking Water in Tripura and issued a prohibition order against Noble Healthcare in Mohali, Punjab, due to significant breaches of food safety regulations.
The prohibition on Noble Healthcare's product, Venolex Forte, was enacted immediately under Section 36(3)(b) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, FSSAI confirmed, "FSSAI has suspended the license of Matri Drinking Water, Tripura, and has issued a prohibition order to Noble Healthcare, Punjab for serious food safety violations."
The authority emphasized its commitment to rigorous enforcement across the food sector to safeguard consumer health.

FSSAI's actions were prompted by the discovery of multiple serious non-compliances during inspections.
The regulator noted that Venolex Forte contained ingredients that are not allowed under current food safety regulations. Additionally, the product's Vitamin C content was recorded at 90 mg, which exceeds the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) set by the ICMR-NIN Guidelines, 2020.
Moreover, FSSAI highlighted that Venolex Forte includes pharmacologically active substances such as Calcium Dobesilate, Diosmin, and Euphorbia Prostrata, which are prohibited under the Food Safety and Standards (Health Supplements, Nutraceuticals, Food for Special Dietary Use, Food for Special Medical Purpose, Functional Food and Novel Food) Regulations, 2022.
The product was also marketed as a "Dietary Food Supplement" while displaying an FSSAI license number, potentially misleading consumers into believing it had received specific approval from the food authority.
Furthermore, the labeling and overall presentation of the product were found to be deceptive, leading to confusion about its legal and regulatory status and possibly misleading consumers regarding its compliance with FSSAI standards.
FSSAI concluded that the product was prima facie non-compliant with the regulations governing the manufacture and marketing of food products and supplements as outlined in the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
