Four Staff Members Arrested for Sexual Harassment at Andhra Pradesh Medical College

Arrests Made in Sexual Harassment Case
In Kakinada district, Andhra Pradesh, four employees of a medical college were apprehended on Friday for allegedly sexually harassing female students. According to a report submitted by the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) on July 11, around 50 students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology (B.Sc MLT) and diploma courses lodged complaints against the accused.
The complaints detailed a pattern of repeated misconduct by these employees, including threats, inappropriate behavior, and being under the influence of alcohol during duty hours.
Based on the ICC's findings, the principal of Rangaraya Medical College, A. Vishnu Vardhan, suspended the accused under Rule 8(1) of the Andhra Pradesh Civil Services (CCA) Rules, 1991, pending disciplinary action.
A source from the medical college informed a news agency that the four staff members have been instructed to remain in Kakinada, with restrictions on their movement without official permission, and they will receive subsistence allowance during their suspension.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has requested a report from the health department and directed officials to take strict action against all accused. Kakinada's Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Devaraj Patil confirmed that all four suspects were arrested today, and cases have been filed against them under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
