Four Militants Arrested in Manipur for Extortion Activities

Arrests Made in Manipur Amid Ongoing Ethnic Violence

Imphal, July 28 - Authorities in Manipur have apprehended four militants allegedly involved in extortion activities linked to banned insurgent groups across two districts. This information was disclosed in a police statement.

On Monday, two active members of the banned organization SOREPA were taken into custody from the Nungu Lamkhai area within the Sugnu police station jurisdiction in Kakching district.

Additionally, the police reported that a 21-year-old active member of the prohibited People's Liberation Army (PLA) was arrested from an abandoned house in the New Lambulanes area of Imphal East district on the same day. Furthermore, a cadre of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (MFL) was also captured in the Langdum Lamkhai area of Imphal East.

In the past three years, following the onset of ethnic violence, security forces have been conducting continuous search operations and maintaining control in border and sensitive regions across all districts of Manipur.

Since May 2023, over 260 lives have been lost in the ongoing ethnic clashes between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities, resulting in thousands being displaced.
