Foundation Stones for Kaziranga Corridor and Railway Link to be Laid by PM Modi

Major Infrastructure Developments Announced

Guwahati, Dec 21: In January, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lay the groundwork for a 32-kilometer elevated corridor traversing Kaziranga National Park, along with a new railway connection between Kokrajhar and Gelephu, as announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has given the green light for the elevated corridor project, which spans 85.675 kilometers in the Kaliabor-Numaligarh area, with an estimated budget of Rs 6,957 crore. Currently, the project is in the tendering phase.

The proposed 69-kilometer railway line linking Kokrajhar and Gelephu will mark the inaugural rail connection between India and Bhutan.

During the inauguration of a new airport terminal, Sarma revealed plans for an aero hub on a 60-acre site adjacent to the Guwahati airport, which will feature hotels, a convention center, and pilot training simulation facilities.

In February, the Prime Minister is expected to return to inaugurate the Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge and to lay the foundation for a greenfield airport at Dolu in Cachar.

Sarma mentioned that the Civil Aviation Ministry is considering an additional terminal at Guwahati airport by 2032, but he anticipates that the need may arise as soon as 2028, given the rapid development of the state.
