Lockdown at Fort Stewart Following Shooting Incident
On Monday, Fort Stewart in Georgia was placed under a temporary lockdown after reports emerged of an active shooter on the base. Military authorities indicated that gunfire was detected near Engineer Road around 2:09 PM local time, leading commanders to instruct personnel to shelter in place.
In a social media announcement, officials urged individuals on the installation to stay indoors. The message read, "Lockdown your facility immediately, stay inside, close and lock all windows and doors. Keep telephone lines open and report accountability to your leadership."
Law enforcement quickly apprehended a suspect within minutes of the reported incident, as confirmed by military officials. The lockdown was initiated at 2:20 PM and was lifted just 12 minutes later, at 2:32 PM, once the threat was deemed contained.
Fort Stewart officials emphasized, "The safety and security of our service members, civilian employees, and their families remain our top priority. The situation is currently contained, and we will provide additional updates as more information becomes available." Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and further details regarding the suspect or the shooting circumstances have yet to be disclosed.
