Former TMC MP Challenges Medical Council's Suspension in Kolkata High Court

Shantanu Sen, a former member of the Trinamool Congress, has taken legal action against the West Bengal Medical Council's decision to suspend his medical registration for two years. The Kolkata High Court has allowed him to file a petition, with a hearing scheduled for Monday. The council's chairman cited allegations of false claims regarding Sen's foreign medical degree as the reason for the suspension. Sen's lawyer contends that the council did not inform him of the decision, which he learned about through media reports. This case raises significant questions about the council's procedures and transparency.

Legal Action Against Medical Council's Decision

On Friday, Shantanu Sen, a former Rajya Sabha member from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), approached the Kolkata High Court seeking permission to file a petition against the West Bengal Medical Council's decision to suspend his registration as a doctor for two years.

Justice Amrita Sinha granted Sen the permission to proceed with his petition, stating that the hearing will take place on Monday.

Sudipto Roy, the chairman of the council, indicated that Sen's suspension was due to allegations of making unfounded claims regarding his foreign medical degree during practice.

Sen's attorney argued in court that the council failed to inform Sen about the suspension decision, and he learned about it through media reports.

The former TMC MP's lawyer further mentioned that during a council meeting on Thursday, Sen had submitted the necessary documents and responded to inquiries related to his degree.
