Former RJD Leader Ritu Jaiswal Joins BJP, Signaling Political Shift in Bihar
Political Shift in Bihar
In a significant political development in Bihar, Ritu Jaiswal, a former leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), indicating a shift in the state's political dynamics. Sanjay Saraogi, the state president of Bihar BJP, formally welcomed her into the party. Jaiswal previously served as the head of the RJD's women's wing and contested the last Lok Sabha elections from Shivhar on an RJD ticket. Known popularly as 'Mukhiya Didi', she was one of the prominent faces in Bihar's political landscape.
Rift with RJD Leadership
Reports suggest that Jaiswal's relationship with RJD leadership, particularly with Tejashwi Yadav, had deteriorated over the past few months. The primary reason for this discord was her denial of a party ticket for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections from the Parihar constituency. Upset by this decision, Jaiswal rebelled against the party and ran as an independent candidate, although she was unsuccessful in her bid. The RJD subsequently expelled her for six years, citing disciplinary issues.
Praise for BJP and PM Modi
Immediately after joining the BJP, Ritu Jaiswal praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the policies of the central government. She stated that the party operates on the principle of 'Nation First'. Jaiswal expressed that being aligned with a single ideology had previously limited her perspective, but she now recognizes that Modi considers the needs of all sections of society without bias. Her concern is to ensure that everyone is included in the mainstream.
Focus on Inclusivity
Jaiswal emphasized the importance of including the most marginalized individuals in society, who are the focus of the Antyodaya concept. She further noted that the central government has made significant strides in this direction through its welfare schemes.
