Former MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh Acquitted in Wrestlers' Sexual Abuse Case

Court Ruling Brings Relief to BJP Leader

In a significant development regarding the sexual abuse allegations against female wrestlers, former MP and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has received a major reprieve. The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi acquitted him of all charges on Monday due to lack of evidence. The ruling was delivered by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwani Panwar at 10 AM.

Following the court's decision, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh expressed his belief that a conspiracy had been orchestrated against him. He stated that the arguments he initially presented have now been validated by the court's ruling. His attorney mentioned that they are awaiting the detailed order from the court, emphasizing that they had consistently pointed out discrepancies and contradictions in the complaints and testimonies of the accusers. Once the comprehensive order is received, they will elaborate on the next steps in the legal process.

The case first emerged in January 2023 when wrestlers accused Singh of sexual misconduct. Over the course of 1,133 days, the court has held hearings on this matter 127 times, with 24 hearings in 2023, 37 in 2024, 30 in 2025, and 36 scheduled for 2026.

As part of the legal proceedings, the court had framed charges based on the Delhi Police's charge sheet on May 10, 2024, leading to the commencement of the trial. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh had been on regular bail since July 20, 2023. After extensive arguments from both sides, the court reserved its judgment on July 2, 2026, which was announced today.
