Bribery Case Leads to Imprisonment


Bhubaneswar: A special Vigilance court in Sundargarh has sentenced Dr. Patita Paban Barik, the former medical officer at Gurundia Community Health Centre, to five years of rigorous imprisonment for his involvement in a bribery scandal.


The court also levied a fine on Barik after he was convicted under Sections 13(2) in conjunction with 13(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. He was found guilty of soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a complainant.


As per the Vigilance report, the doctor had requested a bribe from a vehicle owner in exchange for signing a logbook necessary for processing the hire charge bill related to a vehicle used by the complainant.
