Urgent Action Needed to Protect Manipur's Forests

N. Biren Singh, the former Chief Minister of Manipur, has issued a stark warning regarding the extensive damage to forests in the state, stating that without decisive action, Manipur could face a crisis of existence.

While sharing a video that allegedly shows illegal poppy cultivation and deforestation in Kangpokpi, Singh pointed out that such activities are contributing to the frequent flooding in the region.

He remarked, 'The footage illustrates poppy farming in the Kolten and Selshi Hill ranges under the T. Vaichong sub-division of Kangpokpi district. While we are busy undermining each other, our forests are being destroyed. None of our leaders have raised their voices against this widespread devastation.'

In a post on 'X' on Wednesday night, the BJP leader questioned, 'Why have forest department officials not taken action against the offenders? There are suspicions that armed militants are involved in these illegal activities. If we do not take concrete steps, the state's existence will be at risk.'
