According to sources, the Jharkhand CID has apprehended former PSC Chairman L. Khiyangte due to his alleged involvement in job recruitment scams related to the JPSC and JSSC. The CID had previously interrogated him multiple times regarding irregularities in the recruitment examinations. This arrest coincides with ongoing protests by JPSC-JSSC candidates in Ranchi, who are demanding reforms in the state's recruitment examination system and a thorough investigation.

CID Confirms Arrest

Manoj Kaushik, the Additional Director General of CID, confirmed Khiyangte's arrest, stating that the former JPSC head was taken into custody in connection with alleged irregularities in the examinations conducted by the commission. The Jharkhand government, led by Hemant Soren, had previously announced various action plans, including investigations by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), to address the alleged discrepancies in recruitment.

Government's Response to Student Demands

Following an extensive meeting with students on Sunday, the government agreed to several of their demands, including the cancellation of the 14th JPSC exam and backlog recruitment exams for 2023 and 2025. However, students rejected the government's proposal, insisting that their primary demand for a CBI investigation was not addressed. Protesters accused the Jharkhand government of spreading 'falsehoods,' claiming that the government had fulfilled only 98 percent of their requests.

Student Leaders Criticize Government's Actions

A student leader asserted that out of the 13 exams the protesters wanted canceled, the government only annulled three. They criticized the government's decision to rely on a CID investigation, alleging that the agency has a history of covering up cases. Protesters emphasized the necessity of an independent inquiry to uncover the alleged irregularities and ensure accountability.
